Spartanburg County Public Libraries

Spartanburg County Public Libraries’ mission is to inspire people to pursue lifelong learning for a thriving Spartanburg County. Built on deeply rooted history in Spartanburg since 1885, SPCPL delivers the best service possible to the citizens of Spartanburg County. The libraries offer 10 full-service local libraries throughout Spartanburg County and other services for libraries to be accessible to all. Each location provides a variety of programming for children, teens and adults and is equipped with meeting room facilities, free internet access, and shelves full with books, magazines, movies, music and more.

The Spartanburg County Public Libraries have several programs that encourage learning and entertainment for the Spartanburg community. Arts in the Library are exhibitions that are featured in the libraries for the community to view. The Bookmobile and Homebound are services that allow for people who have difficulty reaching libraries by bringing a selection of books to an area or delivering ordered books to a family. The Kennedy Room of Local and South Carolina History and Cleveland Genealogy Department offers an extensive collection of material for genealogy and history researchers from Spartanburg County and the regions across South Carolina. The Spartanburg libraries also offer a makerspace service called Spark Space for people to make DIY projects from craft technology and materials.

The Friends of the Library is an advocating nonprofit group for public libraries that raise funds and keep the community updated about the needs of libraries through public book sales, and offering speakers in the Dennis L. Bruce Author Series. The Friends of the Spartanburg County Public Libraries are hosting two upcoming events this summer: Speaker Steve Jobe at their Dennis L. Bruce Author Series and an Annual Fall Book sale! The Dennis L. Bruce Author Series with Steve Jobe will take place on September 15 at 7:00 p.m. at the Headquarters Library. Steve is the author of the Spartanburg History Series for Young Readers and attendance is free for the public. The Annual Fall Book Sale will be held at Pages on Pine on September 23 from 10am – 6pm for members of Friends of the Library and memberships will be available at the door. On September 24th from 10am – 6pm, the book sale will be available for the public and books will be sold either at 50% or $1 for hardback books and $0.50 for paperback books. Save the date for these events and support the libraries in Spartanburg!

There are several ways to support SPCPL, one of which is to keep up to date with their events!
