NAMI Spartanburg’s mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals who live with mental illness and their families by promoting effective services and resources through education, support, and advocacy. NAMI Spartanburg is an affiliate of NAMI South Carolina and NAMI National and is a non-profit, grassroots organization. They provide free education, support, and advocacy to Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union County residents with diagnosable mental illness and their families in order to help them build better lives.

NAMI Spartanburg’s has support and education programs with each being intended for a different population. All programs are led by individuals who have been trained by NAMI and have dealt with mental illness, either with themselves or loved ones. NAMI Spartanburg’s educational classes aim to educate family members, community members, and health care professionals about mental illness and how to care for those who live with it. They also have educational presentations, Ending the Silence and In Our Own Voice, that teach how to recognize mental illness, how to get help, and how to recognize the early warning signs. NAMI has two types of support groups, Connection Support and Family support. These groups are conducted by trained NAMI facilitators and and pre-registration or membership is not required to attend.

There are many ways to support NAMI Spartanburg and its efforts. Joining NAMI Spartanburg’s membership is easy and allows you to receive informational publications from NAMI.
