SUMMARY:Speaking Down Barriers Healing Us: Power & Privilege
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday April 1st for Healing Us: A Black Autonomous Space! You can use the following link and choose “April 1st @6:00 PM: Healing Us” to register for this FREE virtual event: \nhttps://linktr.ee/SpeakingDownBarriers \nOur month long theme for our gatherings in April is ‘End Oppression’. Our discussion this Friday will center on power and privilege and how (or even if) the two can be used to end oppression. \nWe are constantly seeing how power and privilege are abused and often lead to the oppression of marginalized folx. Even when we see minorities rise to positions of power (i.e. Supreme Court Justice nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson) that power is challenged and often minimized by those in the majority with seemingly more authority. When we talk about the power dynamic\, it is usually in the sense of the powerful versus the powerless. Privilege then becomes the vehicle of oppressive power\, since those with it use it to pick and choose how their power is utilized to benefit themselves\, their agenda and those who share their beliefs. \nBut what if we could flip the script or change that narrative? \nHealing Us is a racial affinity space for Black folx to work together to heal internalized oppression and engage in wholeness\, affirmation and liberation. \nWe look forward to having this discussion with you all on Friday starting at 6pm!

SUMMARY:Unwinding of the Public Health Emergency
DESCRIPTION:During the Public Health Emergency\, coverage for all Medicaid beneficiaries has continued. Normally\, coverage must be renewed on an annual basis. As the pandemic comes to an end\, we can all be advocates in preparing those persons currently covered by Medicaid to look out for renewal applications in their mailboxes and to get the paperwork completed and submitted on a timely basis. But — the member’s address must be up-to-date in Medicaid’s system in order for the member to even receive the renewal application.\n\n\nIf your program participants count on Medicaid for their health coverage\, then get ready to roll up your sleeves and join us in increasing awareness of this upcoming change and helping South Carolinians stay covered!

SUMMARY:Speaking Down Barriers Learning Us: The Need To Be "Qualified"
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Monday\, March 21st from 6pm-9pm for this month’s Learning Us. You can register for this virtual event by using the following link and choosing “March 21st Learning Us”: \nThe focus of this month’s discussion will be on the need to be “qualified” within the concepts and characteristics of white supremacy culture. This idea of qualifying can be applied to pretty much any scenario one can imagine. Within white supremacy it can be used as a tool of oppression\, discrimination and justification of exclusion very easily. But why? \nJoin Krista Hughes and Naomi Simmons as they facilitate this discussion this coming Monday starting at 6pm! \nLearning Us is a racial affinity space for white folx to rethink and dismantle oppression\, explore their whiteness\, concepts of white supremacy and work to transform patterns of dominance into shared power and mutuality.
