SUMMARY:Speaking Down Barriers March Community Gathering: What Is Equity?
DESCRIPTION:Join us on March 7th at 6pm for our March Community Gathering! You can register for this event by using the following link and choosing ‘March 7th Community Gathering’: \nhttps://linktr.ee/SpeakingDownBarriers \nOur month long theme for March is our mission statement: Equity for All! So it is only fitting that our discussion be centered on the question “What is Equity?” \nThe word equity has become a common term in conversations surrounding racism\, inclusion and diversity. Equity is defined as “the quality of being fair and impartial” but it is far more nuanced than that. How can we achieve “equity for all” in a society where marginalized groups are often not considered when it comes to access of resources\, fair economic practices\, education\, etc.? How does equity and intersectionality co-exist? We will consider these topics and more during our discussion! Will you join us? We encourage you to do so!

SUMMARY:Speaking Down Barriers Healing Us: Equity for All Black Lives
DESCRIPTION:Join us this Friday for Healing Us\, A Black Autonomous Space! Our theme will be ‘Equity for All Black Lives’\, continuing our month long theme of Equity for All. You can register for this free virtual event by using the following link and choosing ‘March 4th Healing Us’: \nhttps://linktr.ee/SpeakingDownBarriers \nHealing Us is a racial affinity space for Black folx to heal and engage wholeness. Current events in the Ukraine have not only been affecting native Ukranians but also Black foreign students. Reports and first hand accounts have spoken of racism and discrimination at the borders as these students try to flee from the conflict. This was also seen in our own country late last year as Haitian immigrants experienced harsh treatment at the Texas/ Mexico borders as they tried to seek asylum\, fleeing natural disasters\, poverty and political turmoil. \nIf equity existed for all Black lives right now\, what would the aforementioned situations look like? Why are Black people around the world treated as less than\, even in situations where multiple racial groups are experiencing the same hardships? How can Black people continue to find ways to heal under these circumstances? How does global anti-blackness play into these and other situations? We will discuss these questions and more this Friday! We look forward to see you all in the virtual space!

SUMMARY:March Campaign Celebration - 31 Days of Awareness
DESCRIPTION:March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month. To help raise awareness our goal is to fill up the March calendar with locally-owned business partners. We will encourage community members to visit their stores/companies and in return the business owners will support us! We are having a wonderful response by local merchants who are participating by either choosing a day(s)\, week or the entire month to host what we are calling a “give back” day(s) to the CLC Foundation. We are so thankful for the support of small businesses and excited to urge everyone to support them as well. Essentially\, these businesses are making “Dreams Possible” for our 1\,500 individuals with special needs and disabilities right here in Spartanburg County. We like to call our partners “Community Champions” and we appreciate their commitment to help us spread awareness and raise funds. This campaign is a collaborative effort and we want to make sure all the locally owned businesses in Spartanburg have a chance to participate. Like the saying goes\, it’s the gift that gives back and right now… everyone helping us is a gift!

SUMMARY:What is Keeping You Up at Night?
DESCRIPTION:The Spartanburg County Foundation offers a special opportunity for nonprofit CEO’s/Executive Directors to gather\, discuss\, and process their greatest challenges and concerns. We know the last two years have been challenging\, to say the least. Tamela Spicer\, a certified executive coach and Senior Program Manager at the Johnson Center for Philanthropy in Grand Rapids\, MI\, will facilitate our discussion centering on the question: What is keeping you up at night? \n  \nTamela led a Nonprofit Connect session in 2020 “What It Means to Be an Executive Director.” We are excited to have her join us again in this important conversation. To allow for questions to be submitted anonymously\, we’ve included a section in the registration link where questions can be entered ahead of the discussion.
