SUMMARY:Chai Cello
DESCRIPTION:A Breathless Half Dance\, Half Dare \nThe NY Times hails Mike Block and Sandeep Das’ sound as “Breathless…half dance\, half dare\,” and we dare you not to dance along in the aisles. After meeting as members of Yo-Yo Ma’s Grammy Award-winning Silkroad Ensemble\, Block (cello/vocals) and Das (tabla) joined together to form an energetic\, dynamic cross-genre duo. Alone\, Mike Block and Sandeep das are musical innovators and masters of their craft. Together\, Block and Das explore the uncharted musical space of cello and tabla\, drawing on traditional Indian rhythmic compositions and classic American melodies. The result is a sound unlike any other. One that is absolutely mesmerizing to watch and as spirited as it is soulful\, like a steaming cup of hot chai. \nPart of Spartanburg Philharmonic’s Espresso Series. \nFriday\, September 30\, 2022 at 6:30 PM at the Chapman Cultural Center. Social Hour begins at 5:30 PM.

DESCRIPTION:A Heavenly Evening of fellowship\, music and a delicious dinner in support of local women finding a new way of life after incarceration. \nThe evening will feature an inspiring conversation with… \n\nSoteria CDC Executive Director Jerry Blassingame\nRoot & Rebound SC Site Director Shirene Hansota\nCity of Spartanburg Chief Judge Ericka McJimpsey\nOneSpartanburg\, Inc. President Allen Smith\nSpartanburg City Manager Chris Story\n\nSpartanburg County ranks #2 in South Carolina for the number of females incarcerated\, and there are very few resources available to support successful reentry. Your support of A Heavenly Evening allows us to raise awareness of female recidivism and the crucial need for transitional housing and programming. You will learn why Angels Charge Ministry must increase our capacity to serve more of the women who desperately need our services. \nA reception will be held at 6:30 p.m.\, giving you the opportunity to enjoy wine\, networking and the Angels Charge Ministry Marketplace. The dinner and program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. \nThis will be A Heavenly Evening you will never forget.

SUMMARY:Scheherazade & Other Tales
DESCRIPTION:Brilliantly Imaginistic and Enchanting. \nAll music tells a story\, sometimes one inspired by familiar myths and legends that are bigger than life and full of mystery and drama. In this program\, guest conductor Antoine Clark takes us on a fantastic musical adventure of the imagination\, beginning with Anna Clyne’s rich and visually stunning In This Midnight Hour. GRAMMY-award winning soloist Kenneth Overton’s opulent baritone brings Mahler’s Songs of a Wayfarer to life with a vibrant\, tuneful telling of the hero’s emotions. Finally\, we journey to a faraway land as Rimsky-Korsakov weaves a boldly rich tale of the exotic and persuasive Scheherazade. Truly a night of music not soon forgotten. \nPart of Spartanburg Philharmonic’s Zimmerli Series. \nFull Concert Program: \n– Anna Clyne\, This Midnight Hour \n– Gustav Mahler\, Lieder eines fahrenden Gessellen \n– Rimsky-Korsakov\, Scheherazade

SUMMARY:Removing our Blinders: Conversation with Gage Weekes of Hollingsworth Funds
DESCRIPTION:Join us as Gage Weekes helps us consider how to advocate for racial equity change at a rate people can absorb. \nHaving served as President & CEO of the Hollingsworth Funds since 2018\, Gage will start by sharing the personal and professional experiences that have helped evolve his understanding of racial equity\, including: \n\nThe values instilled at a young age that guides his leadership;\nStories of personal and professional reflection on the blinders he had to the issues of race and the need for racial equity; and\,\nThe impact those experiences have had on his approach to leadership at Hollingsworth Funds and the change Hollingsworth hopes to inspire in Greenville.\n\nAs leaders\, we can be impatient when it comes to the pace of change in the field of philanthropy and our communities. We often forget that to get to the “change we want to see\,” we must first understand and acknowledge how our personal views and experiences can impact our decisions and actions. One of the greatest challenges in leading is determining the pace of change needed for our organizations and communities. What will work best – persistent\, incremental change? Or bold inspiring leaps? \nRealizing that leadership is about creating change at a rate that people can absorb\, Gage has offered to give an open and honest assessment of his own struggles and successes to date in pushing the accelerator versus pumping the brakes when advocating for advances in racial equity at Hollingsworth Funds and in the Greenville community they serve. \nHollingworth Funds’ VP for Strategic Initiatives\, and Together SC Board member\, Tamela Spann\, will also join us and share her reflections as a colleague.
