SUMMARY:Black Girls Heal Presents: Mental Health First Aid Training
DESCRIPTION:Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. It is a national course that offers certification as well. Dr. Mekeshia Bates will be facilitating the training. Acording to the CDC\, adolescent girls/femmes\, especially Black girls and LGBT girls/femmes is a public health emergency. Having an adult that they can talk to is one factor that can influence their mental health for the better. This training will provide basic tools for listening and knowing when the adolescents in your life need more intensive help. This is a certification workshop and will require attendance for both dates (10/21 and 10/28) and a test at the end. There will also be snacks and lunch available along with poetry and conversation. There are only 25 spots available. Remember that attendance at both sessions is required.

SUMMARY:International Wave of Light to Honor Babies Amongst the Stars
DESCRIPTION:October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. Tens of thousands of families lose a baby each year. Join the event at Hatcher Garden and Woodland Preserve on October 15 for an International Wave of Light to honor the babies among the stars and acknowledge the devastation that comes with pregnancy and infant loss. Several community partners have come together to bring awareness to pregnancy and infant loss. They will hold a healing circle\, led by Asha McMillian of Milk and Honey Milestones\, beginning at 6:30pm. At 7pm\, they will join with others around the world to *light a candle in honor and memory of babies lost during pregnancy or to stillbirth. After lighting your candle\, take a remembrance walk\, write your baby’s name in the sand\, or sit and reflect. This is a time to acknowledge your grief and your baby’s life. *All candles in the Garden will be battery-operated. Families will receive a hand-poured all-natural wellness candle created by Asha McMillian to take home.

Together they will explore interpretations such as empowering others\, collaboration and sharing resources\, just to name a few.

They will have a writing workshop with Max Lit from 2:15-3:15PM and then holding an open mic and discussion hosted by Davelyn Hill and Max Lit from 3:30-5:30PM. Their guest featured poet will be Logan Foster\, who is also their newest Artist Spotlight resident! There will be light refreshments as well!
