SUMMARY:Adrian Rhodes: After the Ravens
DESCRIPTION:Adrian Rhodes\, (b. 1983\, in Logan\, Utah) grew up and resides in Hartsville\, South Carolina. She received her BFA in 2005 and MFA in 2011\, both from Winthrop University. She is the recipient of the SC Arts Commission’s 2020 Individual Artist’s Fellowship and the 2019 SECAC Artist’s Fellowship. Her work has been included in highly competitive group exhibitions at museums and contemporary art institutions in the southeast. Drawn: Concept and Craft at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem presented her work alongside artists including LeRoy Neiman\, Kara Walker\, Kiki Smith\, Sarah Sze and Buckminster Fuller. Paper Worlds at the Spartanburg Art Museum exhibited herwork with eight other artists who\, according to the curatorial statement\, “push the boundaries and capabilities of paper.” 2019’s Coined in the South at the Mint Museum Uptown selected 64 works by 45 artists from a submission pool of 2000 entries\, and was a survey of groundbreaking contemporary southern art. \nWinner of the 2020 701 CCA Prize from the  701 Center for Contemporary Art in Columbia\, SC\, she was also featured in the 701 CCA SC Biennial in 2019. In 2017 she was included in two national print exhibitions: the Clemson National Print and Drawing Exhibitionand VAE Raleigh’s Under Pressure. Her work has received numerous accolades including Best of Show/Top Honors at VAE Raleigh’s Contemporary South in 2018\, Small Works 2018: A Florence Regional Arts Alliance Juried Showand the Arts Council of York County’s 24th Annual Juried Show in 2013. \nHer work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions at institutions including Coastal Carolina University\, Francis Marion University\, The University of South Carolina\, UNC Charlotte\, USC Beaufort\, Jones Carter Gallery and TRAX galleries in Lake City\, SC\, the Arts Council of York County\, and City Art in Columbia SC. \nTo see more of Adrian’s work\, visit her website or follow her on Instagram @adrian_rhodes. \n\n\nThis exhibition is generously sponsored by Davis + Walker Barnes\, Michele + Halsey Cook\, Misti + Kevin Hudson\, Susu + George Dean Johnson\, Jr.\, Vicki + Tom Nederostek\, and Margaret + George Nixon.

DESCRIPTION:Join Ten at the Top and the Urban League of the Upstate for an informal networking event to be held from 9-10:15 a.m. on Friday\, February 10 at CC Woodson Center in Spartanburg.\n \nThe Focus Topic for this session will be: Looking at Black History in the Upstate with a special focus on Spartanburg County.\n \nTopic Leaders for the session will include Lekesa Whitner\, Supportive Services Manager for the Northside Development Group; Tony Thomas\, Voyager Community Leader\, Brad Steinecke\, Assistant Director of Local History at the Spartanburg County Public Library; Brenda Lee Pryce\, Former South Carolina State Representative and Local Historian; and Jessica Scott\, Visual & Performance Artist and Wofford College Professor.\n \nUpstate Connect is a free event\, but registration is required as we will be limiting the number of participants to 30 people to allow for group conversation and social distancing. Wearing a mask is welcome at all times.  \nIf on the day of the event you are experiencing any COVID symptoms or if you have been in contact with someone with COVID\, please plan to visit us for another Upstate Connect event throughout 2023. DESCRIPTION:The annual themed A Starry Night Gala provides the opportunity\, to not only enjoy a fabulous dinner at the Piedmont Club in Downtown Spartanburg\, but to mingle with guests from across Spartanburg County. This is our second gala\, which is themed around Valentine’s Day. The event recognizes those who have been key to the Center’s success and positively benefit the community they live. A Valentine’s Starry Night Gala is a black-tie optional event that will be the perfect way to have a special night out with that certain someone which benefitting an important Spartanburg County charity.
