Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues. It is a national course that offers certification as well. Dr. Mekeshia Bates will be facilitating the training. Acording to the CDC, adolescent girls/femmes, especially Black girls and LGBT girls/femmes is a public health emergency. Having an adult that they can talk to is one factor that can influence their mental health for the better. This training will provide basic tools for listening and knowing when the adolescents in your life need more intensive help. This is a certification workshop and will require attendance for both dates (10/21 and 10/28) and a test at the end. There will also be snacks and lunch available along with poetry and conversation. There are only 25 spots available. Remember that attendance at both sessions is required.
