For fifty-five years, Ballet Spartanburg has been enriching, engaging and educating the Spartanburg community by providing the highest quality dance education, performance and outreach.
Recognized by the state of South Carolina in 2019 as an Elizabeth O’Neil Verner Award winner as an outstanding arts organization, Ballet Spartanburg continues to reach deep into the community to offer equal access programming to diverse and inclusive populations in the community.
For the past nine years, Ballet Spartanburg has retained one of the only professional Companies in the state and the only residential professional Company in the Upstate. This organization is the only ballet organization that provides live professional ballets for the community. The well known, The Nutcracker is seen each year by over 4500 audience members and has been a beloved Christmas tradition for over 30 years.
The Center for Dance Education, located at the Chapman Cultural Center is the home to over 250 students annually who engage in dance education in all genres from ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, creative classes, toddler classe, boys only classes, Irish Dance, Ballroom, West African Dance, Adult classes, and more.
Ballet Spartanburg is known for its successful Arts in Education programs reaching over 15,000 students annually in the city, in Title One Schools, and community neighborhoods with educational outreach programs, providing new classes and instructors that center around a higher standard and offer quality dance education.
Ballet Spartanburg’s 21-22 performing season consists of many spectacular performances including The Wizard of Oz at the end of October, followed by The Nutcracker with the Spartanburg Philharmonic in December, Le Cabaret Rouge in the New Year, An Evening with Carlos Agudelo celebrating his 30 years with the Ballet in collaboration with the Hub City Writers Project, and a night of family fun with A Midsummer Night’s Dream as the finale.
